Lifocolor sets colour trends for the circular economy at Cosmetic Business

Meet us at our stand E02, hall 4!

Meet us!
We present the new cosmetic trend colours of Colour Road 2023 at Cosmetic Business 2022. | Meet us!

The circular economy for polymer-based cosmetic products is becoming trendy and colourful: On 1 and 2 June 2022, Lifocolor will be demonstrating this at stand E02 in hall 4 at the CosmeticBusiness trade fair in Munich. Along with the latest trend colours for the cosmetics industry, the master batch manufacturer will also present the different ways of using recycled materials as well as other innovative and sustainable solutions. In keeping with this, visitors are invited to attend the Lifocolor talk “Trendy Colours in PCR” on Thursday 2 June 2022, from 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in conference room K3 in the MOC.

In its latest trend colour line Colour Road 2023 for the cosmetics industry, Lifocolor is focusing on travelling. With the theme of “Travelling into New Spheres”, Lifocolor will take its visitors on a journey to new perspectives and realms of emotion that will set the standards for the future colour palette for beauty & care products. After months of lockdowns and restrictions as a result of the pandemic, make up is making a strong comeback, driven by the demand for bold colours and effects. There is new-found momentum in the cosmetics industry with interplay between the areas of essentials, sustainability, creative boldness and innovation.

Trend colours can also be developed from 100% recycled materials

There are three aspects to the new trend colours. The first is the “deep level”, which is inspired by the desire to break free of conventions, allowing us to celebrate uniqueness and creativity with bright colours. The “essential level” is characterised by natural colours and focuses on raising awareness of our resources and biological diversity. The third aspect is the “cosmic level”, which stands for experimental progress, adaptability to new challenges and bold colour combinations. In the course of the circular economy, the appropriate selection of (trend) colours for cosmetics packaging and products is also influenced by the type of polymer. The strongest trend is toward recycled materials, which is why, for the first time, Lifocolor has developed several pioneering shades which feature in Colour Road 2023 from 100% recycled materials. “Whether it’s for virgin materials, recycled materials or biopolymers, we advise our partners on how the desired trend colour shade will appear with different materials. Lighter and darker PCR mixes used as a starting base have an impact on the feasibility of colour brilliance, intensity, dosing requirements and ultimately the price of the colour due to their characteristic tones”, explains Andrea Hanke, Technical Centre Director Straufhain.

Talk on trend colours & sustainability at CosmeticBusiness on 2 June

Lifocolor will offer visitors individual presentations and consultations on the trend colour service and the colour properties of different polymer types at stand E02 in hall 4, in addition to giving a talk related to these topics. Under the title “Trendy Colours in PCR”, Andrea Hanke and Jessica Knoch, Technical Centre Director Straufhain and Head of Marketing at Lifocolor, will introduce the new trend colours and discuss the limits and possibilities of colouring recycled materials. The 30-minute talk will take place on Thursday 2 June 2022 from 10:45 a.m.to 11:15 a.m. in conference room K3 at MOC.

„Whether it’s for virgin materials, recycled materials or biopolymers, we advise our partners on how the desired trend colour shade will appear with different materials.”

Andrea Hanke, Head of Technikum Lifocolor.

More innovations for the circular economy at Cosmetic Business

At its trade fair stand, Lifocolor will present further solutions for circular polymers in the cosmetics industry. New colour masterbatches will be joined by new white concentrates made entirely from recycled materials for applications made from rPET, rPE and rPP. In order to optimise recyclability, Lifocolor has also developed a new NIR-detectable black variant on PCR carrier material for polyolefins, which complements the broad standard portfolio. This way, cosmetic products and packaging coloured with this material are detected by sorting systems in the near-infrared (NIR) range and can be fed into the recycling chain according to the specific polymer. In contrast, goods that have been coloured black using conventional means cannot be detected effectively by NIR systems and usually have to be disposed of thermally.

On the topic of optimising rPET products, Lifocolor will go into detail about the new LifoCycle Stab 5/132 rPET with a pure rPET carrier, which protects the contents of rPET bottles without significantly affecting their colour shade. With LifoCycle Clear, Lifocolor offers an additive solution for rPET, which can be used to optimise variations in colour, transparency and the desired target colour of the recycled material types.

A wide range of effects

In the context of its solutions for the circular economy, Lifocolor will demonstrate its large portfolio of effects such as Brilliant Gold – released a few months ago – Lifopal Frost, various metallic looks and multicoloured effects.
